DAY 3 : The growing work of caring for Children and Young People in Odessa.

 When we first started supporting grace Church Odessa and their ministry to give children in need a loving home, one question was always asked...

Why are there so many Children needing a home, 

on the streets or needing to be re-homed from the state system ?

 There were many reasons for this...

• A culture of adults who did not take responsibility for being parents.
• Adictive behaviour (Alcohol, drugs, sex) which either destroy the family or make the home unsuitable for young children to grow up in. 
• Violence and Crime: When adults make bad life choices they should not be emulated by children and young people.  
• Adults misusing and abusing children: for financial gain or even worse.
• A creaking state-system, not always agile are able to respond to specific situations and crisis.
  

In this cultural malaise of sociological, emotional, psychological  and spiritual issues, the next generation pay the highest price. Some children are left without parents, some ...without ones who can care for them (prison, fatality, neglect, inability.)

When we first visited Odessa, and met some of the children who congregated in their own Ghetto (basements, water tanks, building sites and the like) the sight was too much to bare. In this sitaution we thanked God for those who are doing something about it, even moreso with the kindness and selflessness of Jesus Christ.

"GRACE" Homes ODESSA. 

The shelter work based at Grace Church has grown. Initially under the supervision of Pieter and Lydia Dovbya, foundations were laid for this model "house of grace", where many children were welcomed whatever their situation and circumstance. 

The situation today:

GROWING NEED: I would love to say that the need is diminished, but in many ways there is a greater need for this ministry than ever before. Now that the ministry is established, more and more people request help for children, all of whom are undoubtedly in genuine and great need. The statistics can be re-defined and massaged. Maybe the system has made the problem/ issue less visable to the outsider, but you don't need to scratch the veneer of stats very long before you see there is an increasing issue for children of the next generation.

In reality there are those children who are not benefitting from other, or even state care, and for those who are "in the system", things are not always straightfoward, transparent, or working. We need to be honest and realistic...money allotted for childcare does not always fully go to children. Children also need more than money, or even food. They need to be treasured, valued, invested in, nurtured, hugged, cried with, healed of trauma, shown a way forward, given a foundation and model of faithfulness.

 A GROWING TEAM AT GRACE: We thank God that as the need has grown, HE has grown the ministry and ministry team. We thank GOD for the transparent and obviously benificial care grace families offer through grace homes. Each child is placed in a family, but it is not just with a roof over their heads. "Homes" are more than a building. Home is where we belong, where we are accepted, understood. Home is where there is a promise of faithfullness for the future. Grace homes deliver this and much, much more as they nurture each unique indiviudal in the grace, love and certainty of those transformed by Jesus Christ. The undeniable proof is in the quality progress of the wonderful children there.

Today we pray for 2 things

1) Pray for this wonderful team who lead this ministry (above).

There are 3 strands.

A) The church shelter, home to 62 children

 Our great friends at SGA produced a great video for session 3 of their conference.

The shelter is highlighted at (48:05-53:08) and is  5 minutes well spent.

B) A number of FAMILY HOMES specifically purchased in the area for this reason (at present 4 homes with provision for around 10-15 children) 

C) Transition House / Hostel for those typically aged 16+ who need space to bridge the gap between supervision of parents and learning to look after themselves. (The capacity of this building is between 50-60 people). You can see from the video that is increasingly full of life, for which we are praising God so much.

Our commitment is to this whole ministry and to be ongoingly faithful in prayer. Our greatest involvement (privilege) was through the long process of building "transition house". Over the years and frequent trips we feel attached to all in this work. So Our attachment...is to these people, children and young people, not a building. And we pray that we will be helpful in the future as we support the wonderful work they continue to do.

• There are many who would benifit from care at Transition House. Pray for wisdom in this team to know future steps as they seek to look after more and more young people.
• There is a wonderful partnership developing wherby Grace ministries can take more and more strain off a creaking state system. Pray that this will work well and that many more children and young people will recieve the help and love they need.
• Pray that the ministry will be provided for in growth. That all needs will be met during this covid season so that the ministry continues to develop not just exist. (Also pray about what we could do in this situation in the UK). 

 

2) PRAY FOR 

THE FAMILY UNDER THE CARE OF SERGEY AND MARSHA SHIKIN:

 

In many ways what this family asks us to

pray for is helpful for all shelter families and children. 

A) PRAY FOR THE CHILDREN's EMOTIONAL WELLBEING AT THIS TIME:

When children have previously been through times of crisis and extraordinary unsettling, a season like covid - where there is change, unsettling, panic, distance can be very diffifult. 

• Pray especially for the younger children who do not understand these things but feel them, Help all to communicate and help at this time.
• Pray for the older children, yes they understand more and can communicate more, but the situation is not easier for them... not least in their helping of the younger children.

B) Pray for the Schooling of the children. (You saw someting of this on the video). Each child has specific needs. Pray especially for those with special educational needs and those who are studying with special tuiton for their development. (This is made all the more difficult during this time).  

C) Pray for the health of all children. (Clearly from the pictures they are happy and healthy). May God's hand continue to be upon them in these important years and precious times of development.

 

Thank you Sergey and Marsha on behalf of all your team for the amazing job you are doing in the name of Jesus Christ. 

As an army of brothers and sisters we are wanting to stand with you and will continue to pray for all of these things, and for you precious brothers and sisters, especially during this season. 

 

ДЕНЬ 2 ДУМКА ДО МОЛИТВИ:

Один із моїх героїв віри (Євген Пітерсон) якось сказав про Біблію ...

"Бог не говорить, а потім відходить. Слухання триває".
“Робота християнського життя - це участь у роботі з людьми та Духом Божим. 

Ви не можете прожити це без Духа або без людей "

 Думаю, Євген зрозумів щось дуже глибоке (хоча тут просто сказано).

 Він розумів, що коли ми взаємодіємо з Божим словом, ми не робимо цього у 

вакуумі.

По-перше, ми робимо це в присутності Його Духа, який знає наші серця 

(1 Сам. 16: 7, Єр. 17:19, Дії. 5: 3), по-друге, ми робимо це в контексті світу, 

який болить, плаче та стогне. для Бога (Римлянам 8: 22,23,27).

Євреїв 3:15
Тому, як каже Святий Дух,

«Сьогодні, якщо ти почуєш його голос, не тверди свої серця, як під час повстання,
    в день випробувань у пустелі ... " 

Є ті частини церкви, які кажуть, що Біблійна правда - це порядок. (Я згоден, що так). 

Справжнім доказом того, що ви зрозуміли Бога ... є те, що ваш розум чистий. 

Він Бог ясності та абсолютної досконалості у всьому. Але є й більше ... 

Ті, хто спирається лише на це, наголошують на розумінні голови. Зазвичай вони будуть 

першими в черзі, щоб розгромити таких людей, як Петерсон або Шеффер, за їх 

"вовняну теологію". Обидва ці чоловіки знали, що таке любити Бога та любити людей, 

і глибоко використовувались у своїх поколіннях, шукаючи багатьох безпечних овець та блудів. 

Сумна річ у тому, що деякі з наших церков значною мірою наповнені старшими братами 

(Лука 15:18), які думають (припускають), що знають розум Батька. Але, на жаль, вони не 

слухають Його серця. Міцний розум не годиться з кам’яним холодним серцем для загублених 

і болючих (які, випадково, живуть по обидва боки від вас і мене на нашій вулиці і 

вітають нас щодня) 

 Ніколи не любіть правду за рахунок люблячих людей.

Ми живемо у світі напруженості - зламаному (ще не зафіксованому) світі, і тому коли одним 

вухом слухаємо Богаслово, інший світ, що плаче. Ми вчимося слухати в напрузі,

 знаючи, що звук буде дзвонити. 

Якщо ви відчуваєте серцебиття цього світу перед 

Божим серцем ...

 існує аритмія ... речі не йдуть в ногу - ми живемо в безладді, дисфункція, 

а життя людей є нічим іншим, як охайним.

Чи можна насправді слухати Духа Божого (коли він передає благодать і любов 

своїм словом), а потім не постраждати за світ, настільки відчайдушний за його 

голос і зцілення?
Слухаючи сьогодні Боже слово, почуй його серце, і чи не міг би він вести

 діалог із кожним нашим серцем таким чином, що наше серце буде співзвучним з 

його для загублених і завданих шкоди людям.

ДЕНЬ 2: Моліт
ься за Родина Крохінових. 

Слухати Бога ... Любити людей. Одеська область 

Передумови: Багато років тому два мої друзі з Великобританії

 вперше прибули в аеропорт Одеси. Він був не таким 

розвиненим, як зараз - це був дивний досвід. Все стало 

набагато страшнішим, коли великий і імпозантний джентльмен 

(який, очевидно, все встиг)
у чорному костюмі та тінях з’явився та зв’язав їх у MPV.

 

Короткий час вони задавались питанням, чи їх не схопила влада, вони не 

уявляли, куди йдуть ... але ... Це виявився Віктор Крохінов ... 

(симпатичний справа), вони не могли бути в безпечніших руках. 

Вони зрозуміли це найбільше, коли Віктор зайшов до церкви, у його 

грізній тіні була мила (безліч) група добре одягнених, усміхнених дітей, 

котрі всі хотіли сісти йому на коліно.

Діти знали безпеку та радість.

 ВІКТОР та АЛЕСЯ характеризуються своїми величезними  

серцями, щоб служити Богові та любити людей. Протягом 

багатьох років вони піклуються про дітей, які потребують 

любові, і, можливо, через важкі обставини потрібен новий початок послі

довності та надійний притулок безумовно вірно люблячого дому. 

Справді, часто кажуть, що серце Віктора більше, ніж його будинок. 

За ці роки вони зробили багатьох дітей своїми, усиновленими у 

будь-якому сенсі - в безпеку, належність, 

у дім благодаті під Господом Ісусом Христом. 

Тепер очевидні плоди багаторічної вірної праці.

Спадщина: Їхні найстарші діти тепер чудові чоловіки та жінки, 

які впливають на світ добрими 

способами. Ми всі так пишаємось юнаками та дівчатами, 

якими вони стали. Вони є заслугою не тільки їх самих, 

але й Божої допомоги та утримання їх та батьків, яких вони мають. Отже, з таким спадщиною команда V&A легко 

сприймає справи? Ні, потреба занадто велика. Завжди (на жаль, збільшується) кількість дітей, які потребують 

люблячого дому. Місто Одеса - прекрасне місто, але є багато потреб та історій, які впливають на дітей та їхні перші роки. 

Із цією зростаючою потребою з боку Віктора та Алесі наростало свіже 

заповіт служити, піклуватися про нових дітей. З цією метою вони взяли 

на себе функцію нагляду за доглядом благодатної церкви Одеської Церкви 

в різних сім'ях, прикріплених до церковного притулку та міністерств гуртожитків. 

В даний час їх власна сім'я складається з 15 дітей. Кожен з них унікально 

1) Моліться за зростання роботи по догляду за дітьми в Одесі. Слава Богу за 

всіх нових дітей, які нещодавно приєдналися до сімей. Хваліть Його за цю зростаючу роботу.

 створений Богом, особливий у створенні, обдаруванні, здібностях та майбутньому попереду.

Давайте помолимось за цих дорогоцінних друзів та наше подальше партнерство з ними.

2) Моліться за кожного з Крохінових дітей по імені ...

"Господи, ми дякуємо тобі за Артура, Євангеліну, Даніеля, Анджеліну, Максима, Джулію, Тимура,

 Леонтія, Марка, Єлизавету, Ладу, Самуїла, Олександру, Софію та Олега. Дякуємо, що твоя рука, безсумнівно, на них. 

Ми дякуємо ти, що вони перебувають у безпечному місці, любові, тепла, турботи та забезпечення, 

особливо в цей сезон Covid. Господи, продовжуй захищати їх у будь-який спосіб (фізичний, духовний, емоційний). 

і ваші плани лише добрі. Ми молимось, щоб вони прийшли довірити вам і вашому шляху до свого життя.

 Ми молимось, щоб їхнє життя було безпечним у Христі і щоб, коли вони зростають довіряти Йому і слухати Його, 

Він міг формувати їхні серця, як Його. Дайте їм мужності, серця прощення, серця щедрості та бажання служити іншим. 

Благословіть, тримайте і продовжуйте заново, щоб забезпечити цю чудову сім’ю, яку ви зібрали для своїх добрих цілей. 

Зробіть їх майбутніми великими чоловіками та жінками заради вашої слави, завдяки якій ви будете служити шкоді світу.

За це ми продовжуватимемо дарувати ВАМ всю славу, АМІН "

3) Моліться про відповідну допомогу та турботу про кожного з дітей у їхньому зростанні та особистісному розвитку. 

Слава Богу за другий ступінь навчання Алесі з нейропсихології, і моліться, це допоможе дітям.

"Господи, де потрібне зцілення, ми молимось, щоб ти зцілив"

«Нехай буде дана Мудрість, щоб допомогти розвитку цілої людини».

"Нехай ти навіть використовуєш те, що було призначено для шкоди ..., щоб на твої ім'я повернути на добро" 

(Бут. 50:20)

4) Моліться за кожного з дітей у процесі навчання та розвитку навичок. 

Нелегко знайти або застосувати себе до навчання в будь-який час, але особливо після будь-якої 

травми чи порушення життя. Наскільки складніше тоді в цьому контексті робити це в шкільній системі, 

яка може не розуміти цієї історії, це вплив чи особлива форма навчання, яку може шкодити кожна дитина. 

Моліться, щоб Бог допоміг Віктору та Алесі, разом з усіма іншими батьками знайти відповідну та унікальну 

допомогу для кожної особливої ​​молодої людини в церковних сім'ях. 

5) Моліться за розвиток колективу, щоб підходящі нові батьки побачили бачення і з благодаті зробили 

крок вперед, щоб взяли участь у роботі. Моліться, щоб праця продовжувала зростати і впливати на багато

 іншого, про яке ще не відомо.

Хваліть Бога за це чудове служіння, яке виробляє любов Христа в Хаосі розбитого світу. Дякую Богу за 

незмірний плід цього служіння, свідчення якого зрозуміють лише на небі. 

Якщо ви хочете якимось чином допомогти, ви знаєте, що нам буде дуже приємно щось передати.

Month of prayer for E4G friends.

DAY 2 THOUGHT BEFORE PRAYER:

One of my heroes of the faith, (Eugene Peterson) once said about the bible...

"God does not speak and then walk off. Listening goes on.”
“The work of the Christian life is participating with people and the Spirit of God. You can’t live it without the Spirit or without people"

 I think Eugene understood something very profound (though simply put here).

 He understood that when we interact with God's word, we do not do so in a vacuum.  

Firstly we do it in the presence of His Spirit who knows our hearts (1 Sam 16:7, Jer 17:19, Acts 5:3), and secondly we do it in the context of a world which hurts, cries, and groans for God (Romans 8:22,23,27).

Hebrews 3:15
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
    on the day of testing in the wilderness..."

There are those parts of the church who say that Biblical Truth is about order. (I agree it is). True proof that you have understood God... is that your mind is clear. He is a God of clarity, and absolute perfection in all things. But there is more... Those who rest on this alone stress head understanding. Typically they would be the first in the queue to bash people like Peterson or Schaeffer for their "woolly theology". Both of these men, knew what it was to love God and love people, and were profoundly used in their generations, seeking out many lost sheep and prodigals to safety. The sad thing is that some of our churches are largely filled with older brother types (Luke 15:18), who think (presume) they know the Father's mind. But sadly they don't listen to His heart. A strong mind is no good with a stone cold heart for the lost and the hurting (who incidently live either side of you and me in our street, and greet us every day). 

Don't ever love truth at the expense of loving people.

We live in a world of tension - a broken (not yet fixed) world, and therefore when we listen with one ear to God's

word, the other a crying world. We  learn to listen in tension, knowing the sound will jarr.

If you feel the heartbeat of this world before God's heart...there is arrythmia... things are not in step - we live in mess, dysfunction and people's lives  are anything but tidy. 

Is it possible to really listen to the Spirit of God (as he communicates grace and love in his word), and then not hurt for a world so desperate for his voice and healing ?

As you listen to God's word today, hear his heart, and might he dialogue with each our hearts in such a way that our heart becomes in tune with his for lost and hurting people.

DAY 2: Pray for 

The Krokhinov Family.

Odessa Region

The Background: Many years ago, two uk friends of mine arrived at Odessa Airport for the first time. It was not as developed as it is now - it was a strange experience. Everything got a lot more scary when a large and imposing gentleman (who had obviously worked out)
in black suit and shades turned up and bundled them into an MPV. For a short while they wondered if they had been captured by the authorities, they had no idea where they were going... but... It turned out to be Victor Krokhinov ...(the good looking one on the right), they couldn't have been in safer hands. They realised this most when Victor walked into church, in his formidable shadow was a lovely (miriad) group of well dressed, smiling children all of whom wanted to sit on his knee. 

The Children knew safety and Joy. 

VICTOR and ALESYA are characterised by their huge hearts to serve God and love people. For many years they have cared for children who are in need of love, and maybe through difficult circumtances need a new start of  consistancy and safe haven of an unconditional faithfully loving home. Indeed it is often said that Victor's heart is bigger than his home. Over the years they have made many children their own, adopted in every sense - into security, belonging,  into a home of grace under the Lord Jesus Christ. Now the fruits of the many years of faithfull labour are evident.

 

THE LEGACY:  Their oldest children are now wonderful men and women, influencing the world in good ways. We are all so proud of the young men and women they have become. They are a credit not only to themselves but also God's help and keeping of them and the parents they have. So with such a herritage are the V&A team taking things easy now? No, the need is too great. There are always (sadly increasing) numbers of children in need of a loving home. The city of Odessa is a great city, but there are many needs, and stories which impact children and their early years. 

With this increasing need, came an increasing and fresh comittment from Victor and Alesya to serve, to take care of new children. To that end they have taken on the role of overseeing the care works of grace Church Odessa in the various families attatched to the church shelter and hostel ministries. Currently their own family consists of 15 children. Each of them uniquely created by God, special in creation, gifting, abilities and the future ahead. 

Lets pray for these precious friends, and our continued partnership with them.

1) Pray for the growth of the work to care for children in Odessa. Thank God for all the new children who have recently joined families. Praise Him for this growing work.

2) Pray for each of the Krokhinov children by name...

"Lord we thank you for Arthur, Evangeline, Daniel, Angelina, Maxim, Julia, Timur, Leonty, Mark, Elizabeth, Lada, Samuel, Alexandra, Sofia, and Oleg. We thank you that your hand is undoubtedly on them. We thank you that they are in a safe place, of love, warmth, care and provision, especially in this Covid season. LORD, continue to protect them in every way (physical, spiritual, emotional). We thank you that you have their future mapped out, and your plans are only good. We pray that they will come to trust you and your way for their lives. We pray that their lives will be hidden safe in Christ and that as they grow to trust Him, and listen to Him, He might shape their hearts to be like His. Give them courage, a heart of forgiveness, a heart of generosity and a desire to serve others. Bless, keep and continue anew to provide for this wonderful family that you have brought together in your good purposes. Make them in the future great men and women for your glory, through which you will minister to a hurting world. 

For this we will continue to give YOU all the glory, AMEN"

3) Pray for approriate help and care for each of the children in their growth and personal development. Thank God for Alesya's second degree of study in Neuropsychology, and pray this will be of help to the children. 

"Lord where there is healing needed, we pray that you will heal"

"May Wisdom be given to help the development of the whole person."

"May you even use what was meant for harm... to be turned around for good in your name " (Gen 50:20)

4) Pray for each of the children in their studies and skill development. It is not easy to find or apply yourself to schooling at any time, but particularly after any kind of trauma or disruption to life. How much more difficult it is then in this context to do it in a school system that may not understand this story, it's impact or the particular form of learning each child may benifit from.  Pray that God would help Victor and Alesya, along with all the other parents to find appropriate and unique help for each special young person in church families.

 

5) Pray for the development of the team, for suitable new parents to see the vision and by grace step forward to share in the work. Pray that the work will continue to grow and impact many more yet to be known.

Praise God for this wonderful ministry, which works out the love of Christ in the Chaos of a broken world. Thank God for the immeasurable fruit of this ministry, the testimony of which will only be understood in heaven.

Month of Prayer for equip4good friends: Day 1

 Hello Friends,

LOCKDOWN MONTH OF PRAYER:
As promised, each day an update will appear (Usually around 5pm / 17:00 Uk time) so that we can together as a sign of our unity pray for our friends who are working hard for Jesus Christ. Maybe you could use this for prayer for 10 minutes in your evening or as part of your devotions tomorrow morning.

AS WE GO TO PRAY:

 Our great confidence is that as we do this in faith, we are assured that ...

HE is with us. When Jesus directed the church to "GO", "MAKE DISCIPLES" and "TEACH" (Matt 20:20) he did not just give us a vision for the future, he also gave us the promise and foundation that unlocks all God's promises for us today... 

 "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." 

The Church is built on the foundation of the empty tomb. When Jesus said this, He did so knowing the sufferring that would come upon his precious people as they follow the path of sacrifice and lay their lives down in order for the gospel to go throughout the world. Today there are many suffering for many reasons. Over the next 4 weeks or so we will hear of many who are sufferring for Christ and yet at the same time speak with joy. I have spoken with dozens of them in the last 24 hours. Each has a story to tell and many things to pray for, but also report that God is doing wonderful things, and people are constantly joining this worldwide and eternal family. What doesn't change in lockdown is the presence of Christ with His people. The Church doesn't hit a dead end in lockdown, all the evidence historically and colloquially says that it grows all the more.

In sufferring we do need vision... we need to see further than our 4 walls when we are stuck inside, and remember that this world is bigger than us, it is not just about our little life and our comfort circle. 

My daughter recently acquired a hamster. She is brilliant at going around in circles on a wheel (the hamster not my daughter), and majestic at making a pile of sawdust into a comfortable bed. This hamster has vision... but I don't think "Honey" will ever get too far or achieve much on the worlds big stage. We need more than vision... we need faith. We need to pray in truth, in the knowledge that the risen Christ is with us as we pray for His work, for the equipping of His people to do His task. We need to be reminded that God is bigger than this world, omnipresent accross all the detail, and lovingly active in ways that we don't even begin to understand. It is a complete privilege to be praying with you, I hope you are encouraged each day as you follow with us, partake and feel included in this wonderful partnership God has brought us together for. We are going somewhere... somewhere very amazing - (REVELATION 7:9) 

God's goal will be completed.

DAY 1

 PRAYING FOR: PASTOR SERGEY KRICHUN

Background : Some years ago (when transition house Odessa was just a pile of concrete and an outside lavatory), we heard of the development of a new place of Worship next door to transition house. We praised God as it morphed from it's old use (I think a Kwitfit type auto place /retail outlet) into a wonderful new home for the local gospel community to reach out.

This community of God was born out of adversity. Near the shoreline in Fontanke, land slippage and earth movement is legenedary. A fledgling church met in the house of a generous sister within view of the sea. Sadly one night Sergey and the community of that time were awoken to the news that this house had been swept away with all of the resources of this church plant. I remember Sergey's tear filled eyes recalling the trauma this was for God's people - such a young church as they collected the leftovers they could find in the rubble (hymnbooks and the like). Do these things happen for a bigger purpose? Was there a reason why God allowed this to happen? I believe there was...

1) STRATEGIC LOCATION OF THE CHURCH: Because of God's amazing provision, the church moved to the high street Fontanke. Then it was just transition house and the church, but now it is a traffic filled, shop filled bustling centre - on the journey between the coast and rivierra shopping center. Hundreds and thousands of people pass the church every day reading the digital display as it scrolls through an invitation to know hope and certainty in Christ

2) LOCAL HUB FOR REFUGE MINISTRIES: As Grace Church Shelter ministry, Transition house residents and Hope house (fantastic group / charity working with young women) nearby developed their ministry... there was some growing need for a local (walking distance) church for them, where they could integrate and get stuck into serving in childrens and youth programs etc. 

Since then many have found Christ - the church has grown in many ways (Photo is of last months baptismal services when new members came into the family). This church has always been very generous in supplying aid/ clothes not only to those locally, but also to those in the East and Crimea.

  Sergey had an early passion to train men to preach (no doubt encouraged by the training he recieved at Odessa Seminary). Each Sunday there are many churches that benefit from how God has answered this prayer of Sergey's and other men who work hard to preach the truth in love around the great city of Odessa.

3 Things you need to know about Sergey...

• He and his wife Marina love people. They have a wonderful heart (especially for suffering people and those who have been through hard times) which is obvious to all who know them. They are quiet, unnasuming servants. Just the kind of people you want to go to when life is not so easy. This is one of the reasons for their fruitfulness.
  
• Sergey loves the truth and the wisdom of God's word. This is what builds up people, churches and steers each of us for fruitful living and service. This is why so many have gone on to serve other churches and ministries from this place.
• Sergey is a practical man who makes the most of stewarding the resources God gives him. Many years ago someone offerred Sergey an Audi (i think?) as a minsitry car (many of the congregation being elderly or without transport). I think the car was about 17 years old then The only issue - (but significant detail) was that the car needed considerable attention to move/ function. Sergey's first response was to thank God for his generosity. (This is a measure of a man). His next move was to learn be a mechanic and service the car back to full health. "If God gives me a car... he can give me the time, knowledge and patience to get it working until it becomes useful for his glory". Another measure of this man is his patience... God has rewarded that patient service and the car has not only continued for many, many, many years but it has been an indespenble tool in ministry.

JOIN WITH US IN PRAYING FOR THIS WONDERFUL FRIEND AND BROTHER IN THE FAMILY OF CHRIST. He would like us to pray...

• 1) FOR THE CHURCH FAMILY IN LOCKDOWN: 

 "We are also in quarantine today (Sunday) , we still have the opportunity to gather, but not in such numbers. Seniors stay at home and watch online broadcasts. The Lord has mercy on us, so no one in the church has yet got sick."

•   Let's pray for this congregation, their feeding on God's word and those who preach and pastor to them in this time of isolation and challange.  

 

• 2) FOR COMPLETION OF CHURCH RENNOVATION :

 "We are using this time to do some repairs to the meetinghouse (as financed)."

•   I know this has been an issue of patience for the church. (it had no downpipes or drainage when they purchased it). Making it habbitable for a growing gospel community and a hub for local gospel work has been a challange on small funds. They have done a remarkable job, Let's pray it will be complete and God will release provision for this.
  

• 3) FOR HELP IN COMMUNICATING TIMELESS GOSPEL TRUTH INTO THIS SEASON

"Today we need wisdom to be able to preach the gospel in such a situation."

•  This is an outward looking church. Let's pray they have wisdom, love and The Spirits help to reach many for Christ. Pray that many in Fontanke will come to him as they are prompted by the reality of life (and death) without Him. Pray that this new community of love will attract many to hear the welcome of Christ.
  

• 4) FOR LOVE and AID (in the name of JESUS) TO MANY LOCALLY IN NEED:  

"We also want to prepare programs for the children of the village for Christmas. If the quarantine continues, we will collect funds to purchase food for low-income people."

• Pray God will provide for this.  Maybe if you would like to help we could co-ordinate this.

Все, що у вас залишиться, - це гаряча ванна, яка потребує прибирання, збільшений рахунок за комунальні послуги, трохи зморшкуватої шкіри (яка все ще старіє), відчуття того, що весь час, який ви витратили на розслаблення та розслаблення, ніколи не повернеться. Б) Дивіться вічну перспективу. Страждання, які ми відчуваємо в Великобританії, більші, ніж деякий час, але все ще перспективно незначні в порівнянні з минулими поколіннями, маса британської історії (2 світові війни, попередні спалахи задовго до того, як ми отримуємо медичні послуги), і які Християни стикаються з усім світом. Тоді .. якщо ми ще не впевнені ... ми думаємо про те, що Христос постраждав за нас. Звичайно, отже, зараз не час жаліти себе, але, як каже Павло (та моделі)

Приєднуйся до мене в стражданнях, як добрий солдат Христа Ісуса ...

Opportunity Lockdown - How will you use it? Hottub or Hotline?

 

You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 Tim 2:1

 In view of his impending death, Paul didn't shrink back but fixed his eyes on the immeasurable, incomparable power of Christ. God is not confined by lockdown, in fact from the persective of my little and limited life, from what I am seeing currently... He is doing immeasurably more than I can think or imagine during these last few weeks. 

How will you use lockdown? You have two options...

OPTION 1: Shrink back as a Christian and seek comfort. Enjoy the solitude of your own company, watch more telly.

Apparently sales of hot tubs and sofas have rocketed in recent months. People have spent a fortune at B&Q making their home a taste of perfection. (DIY GROUP profits have rocketed so much they felt the need to give the government their furlough funds back.) https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/sep/22/bq-screwfix-covid-furlough-pay-kingfisher-shares-sales-profits

What will this achieve? In the temporary here and now, the sticking plaster of self indulgence will make you feel so much better ... but only for a very short time indeed. Comfort ... is a terrible idol. It will never satisfy you or me. All that you will be left with is a hot tub that needs cleaning, an increased utilities bill, some wrinkly skin (that is still getting older), a sense that all the time you spent relaxing and indulging will never be got back.  When you come to your final moments (2 Tim) like Paul, you will not wish you spent one more second in the hot tub. If you have been woken up by this season to see the reality of death, the finite nature of a our lives ("we are like grass" that sprouts, withers and dies, "here for a season") then you will be wanting to utilise every second up to the moment you stand before God.

OPTION 2: Look to the future and depend on His power as you serve Him.

a)  Remind yourself (see last blog) that...

Because Jesus Christ is raised from the dead... 

the word of God is not chained. 

(2 Tim 2:8-9)

Therefore you can live and pray in confidence, asking God to grow his kingdom, in you and throughout the world as you partner with hus people.

B) See eternal perspective. The sufferring we are experienceing in the Uk is greater than for some time, but still perspectively miniscule compared to past generations, the mass of British history (2 world wars, previous outbreaks long before the kind of  medical services we enjoy), and what other Christians face around the world now. Then.. if we are not yet convinced ...we think of what Christ sufferred for us. Surely, therefore this is not a time to feel sorry for ourselves but as Paul says (and models)

Join me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.…2 Tim 2:3

 This is a time to use our solitude for fruitfulness, to use our confinement to pray for those who are sufferring for Christ accross the world. To pray for the advancement of the gospel knowing that God is mightily at work at all times. It is possible then with this hotline to heaven - to be chained and yet cheerful (Read Phillipians especially chapter 1 (v13-14)).
