Hi Friends,
We are just back from a packed programme at church. It was an
immense privilege to share the good news and some bible teaching from Psalm 56.
It teaches us to face our fears with God (v1-4), leave our fears with God (v5-8)
and walk assured in the light and truth of his resurrection (9-13). It was then
a huge treat to eat lunch with the children and families at the church “Priut”
(shelter). 40 or so children are cared for currently in this loving
environment, some at the church site and others in a family home just outside
of the city. It was a humbling and immense privilege to hear many backstories
behind the faces and chat about the pressures facing those who run this
extraordinary ministry on a daily basis. Many stories would bring even the
hardest to tears. The truth is that God gives special grace to those who love
and nurture children in his name. Compassion drives this ministry, but hard
work, perspiration, grit and above all faith fuel the ministry moment by moment
in reliance on God. There are as many unique needs as there are children to
look after. The sad news is that this ministry is increasingly needed on recent
statistics of the current situation. For this reason, the church are obediently
setting out again in faith and are hoping that 3 further homes will soon be
brought into operation with a capacity to care for a total of up to 100 children.
Humbled by the dedication of the team I came away with 4
things to pray for.
11)
Continuing provision for the basic needs of many wonderful children
(their food, medical care and recreational needs in a challenging economic
environment). Some have specific (and expensive) needs according to traumas and
past circumstances that they physically carry to this day.
22)
That those precious ones who have a difficult story
to tell will continue to know the
healing of God and the closeness and reality of Christ as their Saviour and
friend in an extra measure.
33) That
others will be called into this ministry
as parents and supporters (both prayer and financial) especially as the
need is so great and the looming prospect of three extra properties up and
running. (NB these homes have provision
to be built but the reality of ongoing ministry and fruitful care thereafter is
a reason for dependence on God. A building is not a home until many other
things are arranged and put into action.)
44)
That those being parent guardians who give their lives to this will continue
to know the joy of pastoral, relational and
practical support from those in the UK as they grow this vital and
strategic ministry. The truth is that they are being faithful and acting in
faith, but those who pastor still need to be pastored, those who administer
care need to be looked after.
I am looking to God to see if we can provide
better ongoing support in a small way to this ministry – if you would like to
know more, I would love to come and chat with you about how special and priceless
this work is.
This afternoon we are having a short rest, this evening we
return to camp ready for the work tomorrow.
Last week our work from Tuesday to Saturday morning was encouragingly
successful. On Tuesday and Wednesday our task was to complete dividing walls
and complete phase 2 of the work. On Thursday and Friday our work was to fill
all the gaps, seal the rooms ready for plastering and the next stage. All bathrooms, storerooms and bedrooms are now
ready to be tiled on floor and walls (bathrooms). We have also completed the
bathroom ceilings in waterproof plastic. Considering we have been doing the
work…the finish is surprisingly good!
Following our preparation work Saturday morning we will be
laying tiles tomorrow. Please pray that we will continue to work to high standard
and that our efforts will be an encouragement to all who use this place in
coming years. As always, your love, messages and prayers are tangibly fuelling
our progress and spur us on to love and good works, so please stay with us as we
partner together. From an overcast Ukraine, we send love to families, friends
and those who are with us here in spirit. Be encouraged the one who says “I am the light
of the world” shines brightly here through his people.
