The thief comes to steal and destroy... but he goes home with nothing.

One of the most unintelligent, nonsensical, utterly foolish aspects of any war is the quick destruction of what took so long to build. Many people ask me "what is the point"?, what are the Russians trying to achieve ?

The point or intention of those who come to destroy such a residential place of natural beauty is exactly that... destruction. They seek to destroy a nation, and a people who are not their own. The end game for them has not been fully considered. In areas targeted, there is nothing left to occupy. They forget some very remedial and basic facts.

1. In destroying others they also destroy themselves. Look at the mess and squalor that invading soldiers live in. Multiplied by this is the mess they cause their own mental wellbeing and relational / spiritual state. If they do return "home" there will be a high price paid in their own family, as they try to reacclimatise to normality.  Given the high percentage of fatalities (over 60%) whom have been hit by "friendly fire" (their own forces), and the imprisonment or execution of forces who have not succeeded (or been "cowardly") on their mission, it has become increasingly unlikely that many will ever make it home unscathed.

2. In destroying another country, they destroy their own,  as young men go off to battle and never return, as mothers are left without sons, and wives without husbands.

3. In a desire to create destruction they forget how to create and build. Education in this way of living is not educated, but habits of barbarism. Russian invaders may think they are clever and able, by setting up a "command post" in a doubly deep trench, which is soon taken down, exposed or under attack. However to live there they must first deny all aspects of normal life, and live like animals. Living as a thief into another country is not a settled existence, but one where the clock ticks faster from the moment you call it home.

Surprisingly Archaic.

It is not lost on me that invading forces have not developed in tactics or weaponry since many years ago. The comment from the video below about how primitive Russian ways are is bang on the money. When I discovered some of the shells used in Donbas, which had fallen near Donetsk airport,  I was amazed at how basic and archaic they are, compared to say the intelligent designs of modern aircraft at which they shot. Such "shells" rust with a drop of rain, they are heavy and don't go where they plan. Even the "modern" Russian missiles have circuit boards which have been surpassed by our most basic TV's, and guidance systems well surpassed by our iPhones. This is old stuff, basic, not clever.

For those who have capacity, an an interest in these things...
I recommend this video.

In it you will notice the same shell ammunition, identical to that which plagued Donbas so many years ago (photo underneath). You will also notice some basic other truths...

1. The bond between Ukraine and many other countries is so much deeper because of the war.

2. Good and able men fight and put themselves in danger because they believe with deep conviction what they do is right. Defending freedom and liberty is a noble act.

3. Poland as a country has much to be proud of.

4. Every failed advance of hatred carries a huge cost, most of all to those who invade under such chaotic strategy and end purpose. With this level of waste in ammunition (note the grads left in many boxes in the woods), the damage to homes and lives does certainly make us weep, but ultimately the biggest tears will be saved for those who have given everything but returned home with nothing.

If you have limited time note the destruction at (10:12 onwards ) and the left behind weaponry (21:10), which is typical of a such retreat situations.

You may also appreciate the video interview with Ben Wallace, which notes the significance of increased support for military defence from US and UK.

Continue to pray for friends in the Military protecting locals, and military chaplains who counsel so many who have gone through destruction.

For those who want some information on the state of battle and important issues re: winter battle and issues of being static in winter conditions, this is excellent...
I particularly like his referencing of the resourcefulness of the Ukrainian army and people, (around 7:40) which, both rings true with my own experience, and is a fundamental difference between the two countries and their contrasting modus operandi.
